Paul French reaches World No. 1 ranking

Paul French 1Congratulations to Club member Paul French who has attained the ITF Seniors World No1 ranking for over 60's men.

Paul, who was 60 in June, lost in this year's World Seniors 60+ Men's Singles final to USA's Daniel Waldman, an old adversary. Although Paul has beaten Waldman in the past, the American usually raises his game at World Championship events. It was Paul's first Seniors World Individual Championship final since 2012.

A consistent standard of play and commitment to the sport he loves has enabled Paul to dominate domestic tennis in his age group as well as achieve recognition on the international Seniors circuit.

The Navy fielded a younger and competitive team for our annual fixture at their tennis centre in Portsmouth. Luckily the rain held off and the match was completed on the 'sticky' astro-turf courts.

The SLTC of GB team proved too strong on the day and recorded a fine 8-1 victory.
