Match Report vs The International Club

In a high quality match played at picturesque St. George's Hill LTC the SLTC of GB experienced a satisfying win by 5 1/2 to 2 1/2 rubbers over the International Club of GB.

Thirty Love Bodo - Norway Match Report

The recent Club trip to play our friends in Norway was a great success and justified all of the hard work, planning and communication undertaken by match manager Jim Whittaker.

2014 Super-Seniors World Championships

The 2014 Super-Seniors World Team Championships are being held in Antalya, Turkey 13-18 October.

The following SLTC of GB members have been selected to represent GB in their respective age-groups.

Defeat in match vs Navy

Once again the Navy fielded a very competitive team that proved too much on the day and a narrow defeat ensued, which reversed last year's result in the same fixture.

Drawn match vs RICS

A very closely fought match was played at Harpenden LTC on 11 April on artificial grass under the bubbles.

 

Frances Caldwell and Andrew Soul as No 1 pair won all their 4 sets.

 

John Barnett and Steven Harris won 2 sets.

 

Alan Roberts and Andy Craig dropped their 4 sets.

 

The match ended up a draw at 6 sets each (the best result for the RICS in the last 4 matches).

 

There was not 1 disputed call and the match which was played in tremendous spirit.

2014 Seniors World Championships Success

Team Event

Great Britain teams once again experienced success in the Florida sun.

Congratulations to the GB Women's 40 team who won gold over Spain in the final of the Young Cup.

Ann Clark played an integral part in the Women's 55 team that won silver.

Matt Coombes Paul Scullard won bronze medals with the Men's 45 team.

Seb Jackson and David Collins in the Men's 40 team and Paul French and Vince Gray in the Men's 55 team both ended up in 6th place.

Individual Event

Paul & ChristinePride of place goes to Club member Paul French's wife Christine, who won the Women’s 55 singles and then went on to win the Mixed 55 doubles with Paul. Christine was also an integral member of the GB Women's 55 team.

A great achievement!

Seb Jackson achieved a commendable bronze medal in reaching the semi-finals of the Men’s 40 singles.

Condolences - John F B Hunter

The Club has been informed about the death of John Hunter on 21st April 2014, aged 77.

Our deepest sympathy goes out to the Hunter family and friends.

Committee Changes

The Club is pleased to announce the following:

  • Ivar Boden has been appointed Club Patron by committee and at the recent AGM it was unanimously agreed that Ivar should become Life Vice President
  • Mike Carroll succeeds Ivar as our new Club President
  • Graham Neale succeeds Mike Dawe as our new Chairman, Mike remains a valued committee member
  • Duncan Riefler has taken over from Graham as our new Hon. Secretary
  • Rosie Naunton Morgan as been elected to the committee.

The above will ensure continuity of sound decision making and expertise going forward and I am sure that each Club member will support these changes.

Wimbledon Cocktail Party 2014

Wimb 2014 JpegThe Club’s Annual Cocktail Party for members and their guests will be held at The All England Lawn Tennis & Croquet Club on Monday 30th June from 7.30 to 9.00 pm. Each member is welcome to invite guests and the ticket price has been held this year at £15.00 per person, which includes entry to the grounds after 6pm.

Applications are to be received no later than Friday 20th June 2014 and must be accompanied by cheque payment and stamped addressed envelope.

Ladies - Tournament Success

Cs Photo Trophy 2014Our picture shows SLTC of GB Ladies Team Captain Glynis Lambert receiving the team tropy for winning the recent Combined Services Tournament, held at RAF Halton on 7th May.

A strong group of players was sent by the Club, who were intent on bettering their previous year's position of finishing 3rd overall.
