Super Seniors World team Championships - Antalya, Turkey
Congratulations to the GB W60 Team's great success in the Alice Marble Cup.
Captained by Pauline Fisher and supported by Frances Candy, Sally Freeman and Ann Brown, the team went undefeated throughout the event. Wins over Poland, Argentina and Germany at the Group stage saw them into the semi-final where they beat The Netherlands before triumphing over the No 1 seeded team USA in the final.
The final came down to a deciding doubles rubber, as the teams shared their opening singles matches. Sally and Pauline took the first set but the Americans hit back to take the match into a decider, which GB went on to win 6-4. The victory ended a 4-year winning run for the USA and gave the GB team the title for the first time since 2004 and well deserved gold medals.
