Wimbledon 2017 - Club Ticket Ballot

Dear SLTC Member

If you are ELIGIBLE and have OPTED IN for our Club’s 2017 Wimbledon Ticket Ballot this is to let you know that we have been allocated 9 pairs of tickets as follows: 

  • 3 pairs of Centre Court tickets 7th,12th and 15th July
  • 4 Pairs of No1 Court tickets on 3rd, 4th, 11th and 13th July
  • 2 pairs of No2 Court tickets for 6th and 8th July

If you would like to be included in the Club Ballot could you please send an email to our Treasurer Robin Smith (robbren@talktalk.net) by 19th April latest, stating your preferred court and date together with a second choice. If successful, Robin will then get back to you with information on how to obtain and pay for the tickets.

Condolences - James B Wilson OBE

We have been informed of the death of James Burns Wilson OBE on 19th January 2017, aged 90 and an Honorary member of our Club since 2004.

James 'Jimmy' Wilson played county tennis for the West of Scotland for many years spanning the 1950's and 60's and also represented Scotland. He played doubles at The Championships in 1954-1957. 

Our thoughts at this sad time go out to Jimmy's close family and friends.

Condolences - Jim Sinclair

We would like to acknowledge with great sadness the death of Jim Sinclair on 26th February, aged 84 and a member of our Club since 1979.

Jim was a keen supporter of tennis in Surrey and won several County titles spanning 20 years from the mid 1950's.

Our thoughts at this time go out to Jim's close family and friends.

Cape Town tour great success

Our Club was invited to play against a representative South African team in Cape Town 3-5 February.

A touring party of 15, mostly playing members, assembled to play the match. Some people took the opportunity for an extended holiday.

The trip was a great success culminating in a safari on the Sabona Wildlife Reserve.

Defibrillator Presentation to The Avenue LTC

Defib Presn Avenue LROn Friday 10th February, Mark Barnett (SLTC Vice President) and Jim Whittaker (SLTC Committee Member & Norway Match Organiser) travelled to The Avenue Lawn Tennis, Squash & Fitness Club to officially donate a defibrillator, purchased as part of the Seniors' Lawn Tennis Club of GB's philanthropy program.

The three attending Avenue representatives were Pete Davis (President), Jenny Ward (contact for our Norwegian match) and Justine Brown (Club Secretary).

The defibrillator had previously been delivered to The Avenue Club in December and we were delighted to hear from Pete that he had already conducted some sessions with the Club Members on how to operate the device.

AGM and Annual Dinner

The 58th Annual General Meeting of the Seniors' Lawn Tennis Club of Great Britain will this year be held at The Wimbledon Park Golf Club, Home Park Road, Wimbledon SW19 7HR at 6:30pm on Monday 6th March 2017.

The Chairman & New Members' Dinner will immediately follow our AGM at the same venue - pre-dinner drinks at 7:30pm for an 8pm start. The cost for members and first guest will be £35 per head, with additional guests at £40 per head. We would request that you apply as soon as you can, and no later than Wednesday 1st March, to facilitate our event planning. It would also assist if you could make payments by bank transfer (details on the Application Form).

We are delighted to announce that our special guest this year will be Mr Dan Bloxham, Head Professional at the All England Lawn Tennis Club.

Condolences - Joanna Compton Dando

The Club is deeply saddened to be informed of the death of Joanna Compton Dando on New Year's Eve. Joanna is survived by husband Ashley, son James (both of whom are members of our Club), daughter Sarah, plus grandchildren and her father-in-law Geoffrey.

A Celebration of Joanna's life will be held at the All-England Club, Church Road, Wimbledon on Saturday, 4th March between 2-4pm. If any SLTC member would like to attend, or say a few words in memory, then please RSVP to James on james.compton-dando@sanofi.com

The Club will be making a donation in memory of Joanna.

Our condolences go to Ashley, James, Sarah, Geoffrey and other close family and friends at this very difficult time.

Condolences - Ronald George Ling

We would like to acknowledge with great sadness the death of Ronald George Ling on 20th December 2016, aged 99 years.

Ron was a member of Frinton LTC and well regarded in Essex tennis circles, playing untill he was 90. He became a member of our Club in January 1990 and represented Great Britain (Britannia & Crawford Cup Teams), also winning National singles and doubles titles.

Our deepest sympathy goes out to Ron's family and friends.

The following notices are distributed by Middlesex Tennis, which is the association to which our Cub is affiliated.

Disability Tennis

Middlesex Tennis are looking to appoint an individual with a passion for disability tennis. The successful applicant will be expected to work the equivalent of 1 day per week on a flexible basis as the Middlesex Disabilities Tennis Co-ordinator.

Annual Awards Evening

On Saturday 18 Feb 2017 Middlesex Tennis will be holding their Annual Awards Evening in the Presidents Room at the The Queen's Club. The evening will start at 6:30pm and finish at approximately 9:30pm. This year the special guest will be Michael Downey, LTA CEO, who will make the presentations.

Awards will be presented to recognise and reward clubs and individuals for their success and contribution to tennis in Middlesex over the past year.

Additionally, various British Tennis Awards will be presented.

Tickets can be obtained by emailing the Middlesex County Office county.office@middlesextennis.org.uk Please state how many tickets you require and the names of people who would like to attend. The closing date is Monday 6 February and ticket prices are £10 per head, which includes a free reception drink and finger buffet. Payment instructions will be emailed on application.

Please note that due to building work at The Queen's Club there are no parking facilities available.
