Condolences - Peter James Wilson
Posted:
9 May 2024
We have been informed of the death of Peter Wilson on the 22nd March, aged 81 and a member of our Club since 2001. Peter excelled at the highest level across multiple sports but primarily hockey, competing at the Mexico Olympics in 1968 - he won 122 caps for GB and Wales. He played International squash for Wales, 1st class cricket for Oxford University and County tennis for Oxfordshire. He was also a fine footballer and low-handicap golfer. In 1994, he was given the accolade in The Times of "Britain's greatest sporting all-rounder of the post-war era". Professionally, Peter was a schoolmaster, teaching for over 55 years at the Dragon Prep School in North Oxford - Tim Henman being a former pupil. Peter, or 'PJ' to his many friends and associates, was regarded by all that knew him as a man of great integrity and modesty. Our thoughts go out to Peter's family and friends at this sad time.
