Tennis Europe Seniors Player of the Year

The Tennis Europe Seniors Player of the Year title is awarded to the top European player in their respective age categories according to the year-end ITF World Tennis Masters Tour rankings. This year, which relates to the 2025 season, we had an impressive seven winners from Great Britain that included two of our Club members.
We are delighted to congratulate Pauline Fisher (W70) and Paul French (M70) on their titles, which is a wonderful achievement and an inspiration to us all.

British Masters Closed Grass Court 2026

Embraced by wonderful weather overhead and superb playing conditions underfoot, this year's Closed Grass Court event at Aorangi was a great success. Congratulations to all our Club members who took part, reached finals and won titles. Please refer to our Masters Events page for further details.

Ladies lose close match on the grass at St. George's Hill

As last year, our ladies team just lost at St. George's Hill by a scoreline of 2 1/2 - 4 1/2. The home team fielded a slightly younger team that proved decisive. However, a lovely afternoon of tennis played at a wonderful location and capped off with a terrific lakeside tea - what isn't there to like!

Tie-break heartbreak as men just lose out at Roehampton

An evenly-contested match and the only tie-breaks played went the way of Roehampton, which contributed to their 7-5 (sets) win. On another day, perhaps a different result but a glorious afternoon of play on both lively and lovely grass courts, which delivered a satisfying day of tennis for all the players. Thanks as always to The Roehampton Club for providing excellent facilities and hospitality.

Men's Team hold fast against Winchester

A thoroughly enjoyable fixture against a strong Winchester team, which ended in a tie 6-6 on sets. The Winchester team even included a few of our Club members! Our top pair remained unbeaten on the day. A sumptuous post-match tea followed and as always the Winchester Club and players were excellent hosts.

Our mixed team made a great start to August and recorded a win at West Worthing 3 - 1. This is the start of another busy month for our teams and hopefully the weather will continue to play ball and allow us to play as much grass court tennis as possible.

Wimbledon Cocktail Party 2026

The Club's annual Cocktail Party, held on the first Wednesday of The Championships, was very well-attended this year. Around 170 party-goers, comprising 152 Club members and their guests plus 18 VIP's - AELTC committee members and invitation players including Wayne and Cara Black, consumed copious amounts of food and drink on what was a very hot summer's day. Without question, our Club's most popular social event and one that provides a great opportunity to catch up with friends and associates in a relaxed atmosphere.

July is usually a very busy month for all our teams and the continuing good weather has meant a lot of grass court tennis being played and sun tan lotion being applied! Many competitive matches, a feast of good tennis and some close calls! Latest results:
15/7 - always a quality match but we lost out to a strong IC of GB 1 - 7.
19/7 - our mixed team lost at St. George's Hill 6 - 10.
25/7 - not plain sailing but a hard-fought win against a combative Royal Navy team 10 - 8.
26/7 - a lovely afternoon's tennis at The Hurlingham Club resulted in a satisfying 5 1/2 - 3 1/2 win.
28/7 - outstanding effort at The Wimbledon Club but our mixed team just lost 7 - 9.
Thank you to all our Club members who participated and of course the host clubs for their generous hospitality.

World Masters for 50 & 55 age groups - Rome, Italy 5-18 July

Our Club was represented this year in two of the GB teams that went to Rome - Matthew Coombes (M55) and Jo Shepherd (W50). The final placings were as follows - M50 (13th), W50 (5th), M55 (8th) and W55 (1st).
Many congratulations go to GB women's 55+ team who deservedly won gold - a great achievement bearing mind how highly competitive the event has become.
In the Individual Championships that followed, Club member Jurate Hardy was a finalist in the W55+ event but just lost out to the Belgian 1st seed in a quality match.

Men draw match against a resilient Fitzwilliam team

Our men's team drew their annual match against The Fitzwilliam Club (Dublin) 4-4 on rubbers, although technically a win 10-9 on sets. Played at the excellent North Oxford LTC on 20th June.

Women's team win at Byfleet 13-3 (sets)

This 4-pair fixture at Byfleet proved to be very competitive and everyone concurred it was a day of great tennis that was thoroughly enjoyed. As usual, wonderful hospitality was provided by the home team and a big 'thank you' to all the players involved. Special thanks to Sue Willoughby, a member of both clubs, for her efforts in co-ordinating the match.
