Men's team lose at Winchester

This fixture was hastily arranged to replace our match against The Queen's Club. A tight match and a great advert for senior's tennis! We lost 3-6 but everyone enjoyed themselves and the general feeling was this should become an annual fixture. Thanks to Winchester Rackets & Fitness Club for hosting and looking after us so well.

Condolences - Anthony 'Tony' Scarlett
Posted:
31 July 2025
We were saddened to learn of the death of Tony Scarlett, aged 89 and a Club member since December 1996.
Tony was a Surrey man through and through and his contributions to both Surrey and British tennis in general were extensive and showed great commitment to the game’s promotion. He represented Surrey on the LTA Council from 1981 to 2005 and became an Honorary Life Councillor in 2006, also serving on countless LTA boards and committees.
Tony's wife Mary, who predeceased him, was also a member of our Club.
He will be sadly missed by everyone who knew him and our condolences go out to his family and friends.

A winning July for our mixed teams
Posted:
30 July 2025
There were fine wins during July for our mixed teams against competitive and tough opposition:
22 July vs St. George's Hill - we fielded a strong team and after a great afternoon's tennis came through on sets 10 - 6;
27 July vs The Hurlingham Club - a great fixture, superb location plus we secured a very satisfying 7-2 win, reversing last year's defeat;
29 July vs The Wimbledon Club - this 4-pair fixture was abbreviated due to limited court times but we still managed to win 10 - 6 on sets.

Harald Messel - Norwegian, Honorary Member
Posted:
23 July 2025
It was with great sadness that we learnt of the death of Harald Messel on the 20th July 2025, aged 74 and an Honorary Member since 2003.
Harald was a great friend of our Club and instrumental in the ongoing success of our annual fixture against the Norwegian Seniors. He excelled on court as a wonderful tennis player and off court as a funny, positive and charismatic man. His kindness, humour and gentle spirit will not only be missed by the senior tennis community but also by those involved with our Norwegian matches over the years.
We send our deepest condolences to Harald's family and friends.

Men's team lose to IC of GB 3-5
Posted:
19 July 2025
Our men's team lost to the IC of GB at St. George's Hill in a close encounter. Although we lost the o45's matches 0-4 there was a strong and determined fightback at o60 level where we managed a 3-1 in our favour - getting better with age perhaps! Everyone enjoyed this grass court fixture especially the convivial post-match supper around the magnificent lake. Once again, thank you to St. George's for hosting us and looking after everyone so well.

It also provided another opportunity to build on existing friendships and create new ones. Match report and media can be accessed from our photo gallery page.
