Condolences - Douglas Eric Cook
Posted:
13 February 2025
The Club has been made aware of the death of former member Doug Cook on the 11th December 2024, aged 85. Doug, originally from South Wales, represented Bucks, Hampshire and Devon at County level and spent many years as Devon's Men's Seniors Coordinator and Captain at various age groups. He also played in numerous National Championships.
Many of our older members who remember the Palace Hotel Tournament in Torquay will know that Doug was instrumental in helping to build up the event, which included golf as well as tennis.
Doug resigned (reluctantly) from the Club in 2022 due to his tennis inactivity, having been a member since 1996. Within the seniors tennis fraternity he will be remembered as an excellent organiser who was very competitive on-court and a lovely man off-court.
Our condolences go out to his wife Sheila, family and friends.
